Kisima Awards 2012

The 2012 Kisima Music Awards were held in Nairobi, Kenya on Friday, November 2nd. Kisima Awards recognize the best musical talent in East Africa in all music genres.

The 10th edition of the prestigious awards, which seeks to recognize musical talent in East Africa, took place at KICC Tsavo Ballroom and it  attracted top artistes in the Kenyan Music Industry all in line to bag the Sh2 million grand prize.

The top prize was won by Daddy Owen after winning the Best Artiste/Group of the Year Award. He gave the whole Sh2 million prize to Denno.

Kisima Awards was graced by some top personalities including Sports Minister Ababu Namwamba, Nominated MP  Millie Odhiambo, former town clerk Phillip Kisia and Ndhiwa Mp Agustino Neto.   

Even though there were a lot of controversies surrounding the event with most artists having withdrawn their nominations for one reason or the other, it went down successfully.

  • Music Video of the Year – ‘Colour Kwa Face’ – Nonini, Directed by Willie Owusu
  • Collaboration of the Year – P-Unit/ Sauti Sol, ‘Gentleman’ 
  • Gospel Artiste of the Year – Daddy Owen ft. Denno, ‘Mbona’
  • Boomba Artiste/ Group of the Year – Avril, ‘Kitu Kimoja’
  • Reggae/ Ragga Artiste/ Group of the Year – Wyre, ‘Guarantee’
  • Urban Artiste/ Group of the Year – Camp Mulla, ‘Party Don’t Stop’
  • Hip-Hop Artiste/ Group of the Year – Nonini, ‘Colour Kwa Face’
  • Fusion Artiste/ Group of the Year – Nameless, ‘Coming Home’
  • Upcoming Artiste/ Group of the Year – Camp Mulla
  • Lifetime Achievement Award – Nameless
  • Benga Artiste/ Group of the Year – Otieno Aloka, ‘Kanunga Eteko’
  • East African Recognition Award – Jose Chameleone (Uganda), ‘Valu Valu’
  • Artiste of the Year – Daddy Owen
